Two prisoners who demanded a KFC meal after taking a fellow inmate hostage have won appeals against their life sentences.

Kinloch, 27, and James Quinn, 29, were armed with homemade weapons when
they held Jason McLaren captive at Saughton prison in Edinburgh.
Their demands also included a transfer to a jail in the west of Scotland and a Chinese takeout, the Daily Record reports.
McLaren was held in a cell for five hours before the stand-off in June 2013 ended. The pair later pled guilty to assault and abduction.

At the High Court in Edinburgh in May, Lord Uist imposed
orders for lifelong restriction on the men, who both had multiple
previous convictions.
But their lawyers challenged the decision
and judges at the Court of Criminal Appeal in Edinburgh ruled in their
favour yesterday.
Lord Carloway, sitting with Lord Eassie and
Lord Drummond Young, said they would have to consider an alternative of a
fixed prison sentence followed by supervision.
He continued the case for four weeks.
